Agent Zero

General-purpose personal AI agent that uses its own Linux environment, browser, memory and tools.

Quick answer

Agent Zero is a general-purpose personal AI agent that uses its own Linux environment, browser, memory and tools, listed under AI app & agent builders. A typical small-business use: hand a research or data-gathering task to an agent that browses, writes scripts and reports back. Official hardware: minimum 1 vCPU · 2 GB RAM · 20 GB disk (recommended 2 vCPU · 4 GB RAM · 50 GB disk). That fits a Hetzner Cloud CPX12 server at about €11.99/month (server only, excl. VAT; €19.99/month for the recommended spec). License: MIT, which allows internal business use.

What is Agent Zero?

Agent Zero is an open-source AI agent with its own Linux workspace in a Docker container. It can research, write and run code, and create and edit documents using a terminal, a browser and desktop apps, and you can step in or connect it to local files when needed. Projects keep each job's files, instructions and memory together, and a Plugin Hub adds community providers, tools, memory systems and integrations. Install with the A0 Launcher on a desktop or the A0 Install script on a server, then use the web UI.

Where it fits in a 10–200 person business

  • Hand a research or data-gathering task to an agent that browses, writes scripts and reports back
  • Keep separate agent workspaces, instructions and memory per client or project
  • Automate repetitive web and file tasks inside an isolated container

These use cases are our editorial suggestions, not claims made by the project.

Third-party services you connect (model APIs, vector databases, search engines) have their own data policies. Compare all apps.

How much does it cost to host Agent Zero per month?

Recommended spec2 vCPU · 4 GB RAM · 50 GB disk → CPX22 (2 vCPU, 4 GB, 80 GB disk) €19.99/mo

How we got this: we took the cheapest Hetzner Cloud Regular Performance (shared AMD vCPU) plan with at least the RAM and vCPU the project lists, using prices read from www.hetzner.com/cloud/regular-performance on 2026-11-01. "From" monthly price cap shown by Hetzner, excluding VAT. Prices vary by location. Covers the server only; it excludes LLM API usage, backups, extra storage, GPUs and your time. Disk is not matched; add a volume if you need more than the plan includes.

How to deploy Agent Zero

Method: Docker (single container)

docker run -d -p 127.0.0.1:5080:80 -v a0_usr:/a0/usr agent0ai/agent-zero
# open http://localhost:5080 on the Docker host
# server without Docker menus: curl -fsSL https://bash.agent-zero.ai | bash -s -- --quick-start --name agent-zero --port 5080

Known gotchas when self-hosting Agent Zero

  • Web login is off unless you set AUTH_LOGIN (the username, not "true") and AUTH_PASSWORD in .env. Set both before exposing the UI beyond localhost. source
  • Settings, chats, memory, projects and plugins live in the a0_usr volume. Reuse it when replacing the container and keep separate backups (Settings, Backup & Restore). source
  • The agent runs commands in a real environment. The project advises keeping it in Docker or another isolated environment and not mounting your whole home directory. source
